Hope was the widow of comedian and actor Bob Hope, whose name was tied to the Coachella Valley’s PGA TOUR tournament for 47 years.

The Hopes were also noted philanthropists, and even after Bob Hope’s death, Dolores Hope continued to support desert charities through her work with the tournament.Officials from the tournament emphasized that its charitable mission will continue despite the passing of Dolores Hope.

Tournament president John Foster recalled some of his fondest memories of Dolores Hope.

“I think the first thing that comes to mind is any time I met with her, you were taken by how sharp and dynamic a person she was,” Foster said. “She was right on top of it at all times.”

“To think she was just Bob Hope’s wife is a mistake. She was a sharp, bright woman at all times. That may get lost when you are a celebrity’s wife.”

“I think she wanted to keep (the tournament) very vibrant with Bob’s name.”
