Palmer Courses to Open in South America
By Paul Trow. The project in Uruguay, where work will begin next month, is part of a private community called Las Piedras (“the rocks”), just outside the popular resort town of Punta del Este. Aimed primarily at wealthy South Americans in search of a second home in a luxury setting, the development will also feature a Fasano hotel with meeting space, 205 villas, a spa, an equestrian center, polo fields and a private beach. It is expected this course will open nine holes at a time in 2012-13.
The new course in Brazil, which will measure 7,200 yards and should open some time in 2013, will be the centerpiece of a 1,730-acre community called Fazenda Boa Vista in the city of Porto Feliz, some 60 miles north of Sao Paolo. The community, which already has an 18-hole course, will feature single-family and estate houses (some on 20-acre parcels), a Fasano hotel with 26 condos and 22 two-bedroom suites, a spa, three polo fields, an equestrian center, several soccer fields and a boat house.
